Erik's practice is concentrated in litigation, with a special interest in complex civil litigation and international law. He received his law degree from Washington and Lee University in 2004, where he was a case note writer for the Race and Ethnic Ancestry Law Journal, Treasurer of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Honor Society (Tucker Inn), Webmaster and Staff Writer for the W&L Law News, and Secretary of the W&L American Constitution Society. Erik also studied International, European, and Corporate Law at Bucerius Law School (Hamburg, Germany) and Concordia International School of Law (Tallinn, Estonia.)
Prior to law school, Erik attended the University of Chicago, where he was heavily involved in student organizations and served as Chief Justice of the Student Supreme Court. He graduated with an A.B. in Anthropology in 1999.
Before joining Jaffe & Berlin, Erik practiced personal injury and mass tort litigation in Chicago. He previously clerked at the New York Supreme Court (Ulster County) and worked as a research assistant and paralegal, prior to law school.
Erik is admitted to practice in Illinois (2004), and is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of Illinois, the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, and the Northern District of Indiana (2005). He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.
Erik resides on the near northwest side of Chicago. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, writing, painting, cooking, sport, volunteer work, travel, and spending time with his family. Conversant in French and Italian, he is heavily involved in Democratic politics and is a member of the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations and West Town Chamber of Commerce.
